Surrey Americana Festival comes to Woking

Surrey Americana Festival comes to Woking

Woking hosts a whole new genre when the Surrey Americana Festival lands at Fiery Bird Live Music venue on 21st and 22nd September.

Featuring some of the best emerging acts on the scene, covering blues, country and roots music, it is the first time this event has been held in Woking.

‘We wanted to reflect what we were finding coming through at our open mic and feature events and we know other local promoters in Surrey and Hants were finding the same - some excellent new work of these genres with contemporary themes and lyrics but all with a very high level of skill in common. The size of our venue means that we can open out a much larger space to acts and other promoters wanting to be involved’, a spokesperson said. ‘We are so proud to bring this event to Woking because it really reflects what Fiery Bird is all about - a place to give a platform to new artists but also bring great touring artists in to Woking for all to enjoy. As well as Woking music lovers the venue is so easy to access from London, Surrey, Hants & Berks that it makes for an easy way to hear some brilliant music and have a great weekend with all the variety of restaurants and activities that Woking has to offer too.’

Artists such as Blues favourite Katie Bradley, Americana legends The Dustbowl Sinners, and Roots Rattle and Roll merchants The Mantic Muddlers, will be playing along with some excellent work from local talent and worldwide impact acts like Beth Keeping, who has been recording in Nashville as well as founding her critically acclaimed project Write Like A Girl which resumes touring later this year.

The emergence of Fiery Bird, a grassroots venue in Woking, even in the short time it has been opened, is seeing its impact as a broad range of new writing comes to the fore - musicians now having the space to explore, create and share new work in a supportive environment taking it from open mic to festival level, whilst the ethos of an artist-led community benefit venue attracts excellent, respected and well-established touring musicians to the area. Woking can now claim again a place on the map in UK music that it can be proud of.
